BANGKOK, Aug. 24 (Xinhua) -- London will host the ITTF World Team Table Tennis Championships in 2026 after it won the bid at the ITTF's Annual Meeting here on Thursday.

Delegates voted for London to host the tournament ahead of fellow bid city Bangkok, allowing the flagship event to return to London exactly 100 years after it staged the first World Championships - alongside the foundation of the ITTF - in 1926.

The vote followed a final presentation to delegates by each bid city. Both London and Bangkok had previously submitted detailed technical information about how they would stage the championships.

The competition will be held at the OVO Arena, Wembley, in May 2026, with practice facilities at Wembley Stadium, according to Table Tennis England.

It will be the first time England has hosted the table tennis worlds since 1997, and the first time since 1954 that the championships has been held in London, the sport's governing body in England added. Enditem
