JAKARTA, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.2 rocked off Indonesia's eastern province of North Maluku on Monday evening, without causing a tsunami, said the country's meteorology, climatology and geophysics agency.
The agency initially said the quake measured 5.9 on the Richter scale, but later revised its intensity.
The earthquake, with a depth of 152 km, happened at 19:51 p.m. Jakarta time (1251 GMT) with its epicenter being 11 km northeast of Jailolo sub-district, in West Halmahera district of North Maluku province, it said.
The tremors of the earthquake, which did not potentially trigger giant waves, were also felt in the nearby provinces of North Sulawesi and Gorontalo, according to the agency. Enditem
