TEHRAN, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- Parts of a "defective missile system" belonging to the Iranian Defense Ministry crashed into a residential area in the northern city of Gorgan Monday morning, injuring two people, the official news agency IRNA reported.

The incident occurred during a process to test Iran's defense and drone systems in a desert region after "one of the systems deviated from its path due to a technical defect and broke into pieces," IRNA quoted Iranian Defense Ministry spokesman Reza Talaei-Nik as saying.

The spokesman added that parts of the system fell in some areas of Gorgan, which are being collected by operational teams.

The fallen debris also damaged a number of buildings and vehicles. Talaei-Nik said those whose properties and belongings were damaged in the incident will be compensated.

The incident occurred at around 09:00 a.m. local time (0530 GMT), producing loud bangs, the IRNA said. Enditem
