TEHRAN -- Iran and the United States conducted a prisoner swap on Monday, releasing five detainees from each side, according to media reports and Iranian officials.

Five American prisoners, along with two of their family members, boarded a plane that left Tehran for Qatar's capital Doha on Monday, Qatar-based Al Jazeera quoted a U.S. official as saying. (Iran-U.S.-Prisoner Swap)

TUNIS -- The Tunisian Ministry of Culture confirmed Monday that Djerba Island in southeastern Tunisia has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

"During its 45th session, the UNESCO World Heritage Committee officially approved the inclusion of Djerba Island on its list during a meeting held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia," said a ministry statement. (Tunisia-World Heritage Site)

KHARTOUM -- The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and a local armed group exchanged fire on Monday evening in Port Sudan, the capital city of the Red Sea State in eastern Sudan, said a military source.

GAZA -- The Israeli authorities closed the only pedestrian crossing to the Gaza Strip, the Erez Crossing, on Monday, preventing Gazan workers from reaching their workplaces in Israeli cities.

Ghassan Alyan, coordinator of Israeli government activities in the Palestinian territories, said in a press statement that the closure will "last for 24 hours" and "the Erez Crossing will be reopened after evaluating the security situation in the coastal enclave."
