TEHRAN, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) -- Iran's deputy foreign minister for political affairs said on Tuesday that he has discussed with the E3 representatives the revival of a 2015 nuclear deal and the removal of the sanctions on Tehran.

Ali Bagheri Kani made the remarks in a post on the social media platform X, previously known as Twitter while elaborating on his meeting in New York with the "political directors" of the E3 group of France, Britain and Germany, without giving the date.

"In follow-up of our previous meetings, I met with E3 political directors in New York. We discussed a range of issues of mutual interests, including negotiations on lifting sanctions on Iran," he said.

Iran signed the nuclear deal, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), with world powers in July 2015, agreeing to put some curbs on its nuclear program in return for the removal of the sanctions on the country. The United States, however, pulled out of the deal in May 2018 and reimposed its unilateral sanctions on Tehran, prompting the latter to drop some of its nuclear commitments under the deal.

The talks on the revival of the JCPOA began in April 2021 in Vienna, Austria. Despite several rounds of talks, no significant breakthrough has been achieved since the end of the last round in August 2022. Enditem
