STOCKHOLM -- Two people were killed and another two injured when a gunman opened fire at a pub in Sweden last night, police said on Friday.

When police arrived at the pub, located in the town of Sandviken some 190 km northwest of Stockholm at around 10 p.m. (2100 GMT) on Thursday, they found four people who had been shot. (Sweden-shooting)

ISTANBUL -- Turkish police have detained at least 17 people for their suspected links to the Islamic State (IS) in a massive operation against the terrorist group's financing network launched on Friday, local media reported.

ABUJA -- At least 35 people, including students and staff members of a university in Nigeria's northwestern state of Zamfara, were kidnapped by unidentified gunmen on Friday, a government official said.

Mugira Yusuf, spokesperson for Zamfara State governor, told Xinhua via telephone that 24 students, 10 workers, and a security guard of the Federal University Gusau were taken hostage by the heavily armed gunmen who attacked some hostels in the Sabon-Gida area of the state.
