SAO PAULO, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) -- Rodrigo Nestor canceled out a Bruno Henrique strike as Sao Paulo clinched their first major title in more than a decade with a 1-1 home draw against Flamengo on Sunday.
Henrique put the hosts ahead in the second leg with a close-range finish before Rodrigo Nestor equalized by thumping a low first-time effort from distance into the far corner.
The result handed Sao Paulo a 2-1 victory on aggregate after their 1-0 win in the first leg in Rio de Janeiro.
"To reach the top in football you have to have commitment and above all dignity to be able to achieve great results," Sao Paulo manager Dorival Junior said after the match.
"Few know what was done here to get the players to understand our message and believe in themselves. We've achieved something that we haven't been able to do for a number of years. I can only thank those that trusted in my work," he added.
Sao Paulo's last major trophy was the Copa Sudamericana title, South America's equivalent of the Europa League, in 2012. Enditem
