HANGZHOU, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- Asian Games debutant Lyu Ping of China defeated Iran's Daniyal Shahbakhsh 5-0 to advance to the men's 57kg boxing round of 16 in Hangzhou on Tuesday.

Amid the cheers "Go China" from home crowd, Lyu displayed patience while gradually gaining advantage with a few punches.

"I was quite nervous before the contest, and I chose to attack with caution, because that's also the way he fights, an all-in strategy wouldn't do me good, so I decide to follow his style," Lyu said afterward.

A total of 34 qualification slots for the Paris 2024 Olympics will be awarded at the Asian Games, including 14 in men's events and 20 in women's events.

Lyu, a silver medalist at the Youth Olympic Games, revealed that he aims to qualify for the Olympics.

The boxing competition at the Hangzhou Asian Games will continue until October 5th, with 237 boxers from 38 countries and regions competing for 13 gold medals at the Hangzhou Gymnasium. Enditem
