MADRID, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- La Liga strugglers Almeria sacked Vicente Moreno as first team coach on Wednesday after just seven games in charge.

The former Mallorca and Espanyol coach was sacked in the wake of a punishing 5-1 defeat away to Sevilla on Tuesday night, after which he accepted responsibility for the result, but insisted that he had the "strength to carry on."

However, rumors of his departure started on Wednesday morning, when the team trained behind closed doors, with Moreno and his technical staff leaving the session early.

Tuesday's result leaves Almeria bottom of La Liga without a win and with just two draws from their seven games under Moreno's leadership. It is the club's worst ever start to a campaign in the Spanish top-flight.

Moreno was appointed Almeria coach on June 17, replacing Rubi, who opted not to sign a new contract after helping the club avoid relegation on a tense last day of last season, but things have clearly not worked out, with Almeria conceding 18 goals so far this campaign.

He is the second coach to be sacked in Spain this season after Quique Setien was shown the door by Villarreal after just four matches and replaced by Juan Jose Rojo 'Pacheta'.

Almeria's next game is a key relegation derby at home to Granada on Sunday. Enditem
