RIO DE JANEIRO, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- Former Brazil national team boss Mano Menezes has been appointed head coach of Corinthians for a third time, the Brazilian Serie A club said on Thursday.

In a statement published on social media, Corinthians said Menezes had agreed to a contract that runs until December 2025.

The 61-year-old replaces fellow ex-Brazil manager Vanderlei Luxemburgo, who was sacked after a 1-1 home draw with Fortaleza in their Copa Sudamericana semifinal first leg on Tuesday.

Menezes, who was Brazil's head coach from July 2010 to November 2012, had been out of work since leaving Corinthians' top-flight rivals Internacional in July.

He also had spells in charge of the Sao Paulo club from 2008 to 2010 and in 2014.

Corinthians are currently 11th in Brazil's 20-team Serie A standings with seven wins from 24 games so far.

They will meet Sao Paulo away in the Serie A on Saturday before visiting Fortaleza for the return leg of their Copa Sudamericana semifinal on Tuesday. Enditem
