KABUL, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- A major serum production factory was inaugurated in Afghanistan's capital Kabul on Sunday, a statement of the Ministry for Industry and Commerce said on Monday.

Built at a cost of 25 million U.S. dollars at the industrial park of Pul-e-Charkhi locality with the capacity to produce 110,000 serum packets in 24 hours, the plant has provided job opportunities for 1,000 persons, the statement added.

"The private sector has played a significant role in the development and prosperity of our country by creating job opportunities for our compatriots, especially for the youth," Acting Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce Mawlawi Qadratullah Jamal was quoted in the statement as saying.

The Afghan caretaker government has been calling upon domestic and foreign companies to invest in Afghanistan as part of efforts to create job opportunities and stabilize the impoverished economy of the war-torn nation. Enditem
