MADRID, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- FC Barcelona has extended the contract of 16-year-old Spain international Lamine Yamal until the end of June 2026.

The new contract is only for three years due to the fact that Yamal is still a minor and is not allowed by law to sign a longer deal, but the contract does include a 1,000-million-euro buyout clause, which means it is virtually impossible for another club to buy him.

Yamal signed his contract on Monday at the offices of Barcelona's Joan Gamper training ground in the presence of Barcelona President, Joan Laporta and Director of Sport, Deco.

Born in July 2007, Yamal signed for Barcelona as a seven-year-old and made his debut, at the end of last season when he was just 15. This campaign he has been a fixture in Xavi Hernandez's plans, appearing in every one of Barca's competitive games, as well as making two appearances for the Spanish national team.

He made his international debut in Spain's 7-1 win away to Georgia on September 8th aged 16 years and 50 days, becoming both the youngest player ever to debut for the Spanish national team and also to score for them. Enditem
