ADEN, Yemen -- Chief of Yemen's special security forces Fadhal Baash survived an assassination attempt on Monday when a car bomb targeted his convoy in the country's turbulent southern province of Abyan, a government official told Xinhua.

ALGIERS -- Niger has accepted Algeria's mediation proposal aimed at finding a political solution to the ongoing crisis in the West African country, the Algerian Foreign Ministry announced in a statement on Monday.
