Altamimi clinches Qatar's first Asiad squash medal

HANGZHOU, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) -- Ng Eain Yow of Malaysia defeated Abdulla Altamimi 3-1 to enter the men's squash final, while Altamimi secured the first Asiad squash medal for Qatar at the Hangzhou Asian Games here on Wednesday.

Although Altamimi lost the hard-fought semifinal, he still made the history for Qatar's squash with a bronze.

"I'm really happy to get the first medal for Qatar in squash, but my goal is the gold. In the future, hopefully, I can get the gold," he said.

Malaysian athletes also sailed into the finals of women's singles and mixed doubles.

On Thursday, the last competition day of squash, Ng will face off India's Saurav Ghosal in the men's final, Subramaniam Sivasangari of Malaysia and Chan Sin Yuk from Hong Kong, China will contend for the women's title, while Malaysian and Indian pairs will meet in the mixed doubles final. Enditem
