CHICAGO, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) -- Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) agricultural futures closed mixed on Wednesday, with corn and wheat falling and soybean rising slightly.

The most active corn contract for December delivery fell 1.5 cents, or 0.31 percent, to settle at 4.86 U.S. dollars per bushel. December wheat lost 8.5 cents, or 1.5 percent, to settle at 5.60 dollars per bushel. November soybean rose 0.25 cents, or 0.02 percent, to settle at 12.73 dollars per bushel.

Active CBOT selling was noted on the opening, but the decline was met with end user pricing on the stability in non-U.S. wheat and corn FOB price offers. Seasonal bottoming process appears to be underway.

There is a flow of Ukraine grain, but it is not equal to last year or normal. U.S. soybean harvest is speeding ahead with yield reports generally below last year. Brazil and China completed their first soybean trade in yuan and reals.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture reported that Mexico purchased 196,607 metric tons of U.S. corn. China will be returning from its weeklong "golden week" holiday on Friday which should release some pent-up demand for U.S. soybeans.

Mexico is the largest purchaser of U.S. corn for the 2023-2024 crop year to date of around 8 million metric tons, more than 50 percent of U.S. total export.

Showers are forecast over the Central Midwest in the next 38 hours, followed by a long stretch of cool and dry weather. Temperatures will be much cooler starting Thursday with the next chance of rain in the Midwest occurring during Oct. 12-14. Weather pattern in South America stays abnormal with flooding rain across southeast Brazil and a deepening drought across Argentina. Enditem
