BUENOS AIRES, Oct. 9 (Xinhua) -- Velez Sarsfield scored three goals in the first 18 minutes en route to a 3-1 home win over Atletico Tucuman in Argentina's Primera Division on Monday.
Joaquin Garcia opened the scoring with a close-range header after Jose Florentin's cross and Santiago Castro doubled the lead by curling a long-range drive into the top left corner.
Florentin made it 3-0 in the 18th minute when he headed home after latching onto Claudio Aquino's set piece.
There was time for some late consolation for the visitors and Mateo Coronel pulled a goal back with a cool finish from 12 yards after Ramiro Carrera's through ball just after the hour.
The result leaves Velez fifth in Group B with 13 points from eight games, three points behind leaders River Plate. Atletico Tucuman are 11th in the 14-team group, three points further back.
In other Primera Division fixtures on Monday, Banfield drew 0-0 at Arsenal Sarandi and Barracas Central prevailed 2-1 at home to Colon. Enditem
