KIEV -- Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has signed a decree to spend at least 21.6 percent of the country's gross domestic product (GDP) in 2024 on national defense, the Interfax-Ukraine news agency reported Tuesday.

The presidential decree, which put into effect the decision of the National Security and Defense Council, stipulates that Ukraine's defense spending next year will reach no less than 1.69 trillion hryvnia (about 46 billion U.S. dollars). (Ukraine-Defense-Budget)

SEOUL -- South Korean financial institutions' overseas real estate investment rose in the first half of this year, financial watchdog data showed Tuesday.

The outstanding alternative investment in overseas real estate by local financial institutions, including banks, insurers and brokerages, came in at 55.8 trillion won (41.3 billion U.S. dollars) at the end of June, up 3.7 percent from a year earlier, according to the Financial Supervisory Service (FSS). TOKYO -- Japan posted a current account surplus of 2.28 trillion yen (about 15 billion U.S. dollars) in August, more than tripled compared to a year earlier, government data showed on Tuesday.

ULAN BATOR -- Mongolia purchased 13.2 tons of gold in the first three quarters from legal entities and individuals, the central bank said Tuesday.
