RIO DE JANEIRO, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- Flamengo manager Tite said Tuesday that he has not given up hope of winning this year's Brazilian Serie A title, insisting his team has a mathematical chance of overhauling leaders Botafogo.

Eleven points separate the Rio de Janeiro rivals with 12 match days remaining but Tite is not ruling out the possibility of securing the club's eighth top-flight crown.

"The initial objective is the Copa Libertadores," Tite told a news conference a day after Flamengo officially announced the former Corinthians manager's arrival.

"There is also a [title] dream, which is still mathematically possible," he added of the only trophy that Flamengo is currently vying for.

The 62-year-old, whose real name is Adenor Bacchi, replaces Argentine Jorge Sampaoli, who was sacked late last month after the team's loss to Sao Paulo in the Copa do Brasil final.

Tite has been unemployed since taking Brazil to the quarterfinals of last year's FIFA World Cup in Qatar, where they were eliminated by Croatia on penalties.

"I've missed it [working as a manager]," he said. "The professional opportunity at Flamengo is enormous and so is the responsibility. I'm aware of that. I can promise that I will be at my best."

Tite admitted that he had never previously seen Flamengo's Ninho do Urubu training complex in Rio de Janeiro's west, adding that he was suitably impressed.

"I had never been to the facility before and it has everything we need to work successfully. Now it's up to us," he said.

"I was looking at the photos on the walls and it gives me great pride to now be a part of this story."

Tite's first match in charge will be an away clash against Cruzeiro following the international break next Thursday. Enditem
