ISLAMABAD, Oct. 12 (Xinhua) -- The ever-progressing and unique governance model of China is based on a people-centric and development-focused philosophy, offering practical solutions for the realization of the common values of humanity amid multiple challenges, experts said on Wednesday.

China's whole-process people's democracy seeks to involve and mobilize people in the political process to enthusiastically contribute to the country's future and well-being of all, and is thus a driving force for rapid economic development, Pakistani and Chinese experts and officials said during a webinar organized by the Asian Institute of Eco-civilization Research and Development (AIERD), an Islamabad-based think tank.

Speaking at the event, Mushahid Hussain Syed, chairperson of the Pakistani Senate's Defense Committee, said that the people-centric governance in China was established on the ethos of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the Chinese historical context.

The CPC springs from the Chinese people as it has over 98 million members, he said, adding that China's model of democracy includes democratic elections, consultation, decision-making and management.

Noting that China's state governance is worth learning, Syed said that China's remarkable economic development, poverty reduction, and successful policies to tackle modern-day challenges have many lessons for countries around the globe, including Pakistan.

He said that several China-proposed global initiatives including the Global Development Initiative and the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) are crucial to understanding China's people-centric governance.

"China has advanced a Chinese solution to global development issues based on inclusivity, respect for diversity and equality and based on the concept of win-win cooperation and mutual benefit...the BRI is one of the key pillars of the shared community for the future, the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor is the living example," he added.

Zahid Latif Khan, chairperson of the AIERD said that the Chinese political system is all about social cohesion, fairness and inclusiveness and is different from the Western-style democracy.

"In our interconnected world, policies can often affect people's lives, therefore upholding human rights, ensuring government responsiveness, promoting social justice, empowering marginalized sections of the society, and encouraging people's engagement in decision-making are important factors," he added.
