American Baum wins 38th Budapest Marathon

BUDAPEST, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- Mitchell Baum from the United States seized the title of the 38th Budapest Marathon, finishing in two hours, 24 minutes and 36 seconds here on Sunday.

Hungarian Zoltan Krisztian Vigh and Peter Simon displayed local talent, securing the second and third positions, respectively.

The fastest female athlete was Eszter Barabas from Hungary, with a time of 02:54:17, as she beat German Pia von Keutz from Freiburg to the second place, while the third faster woman was Agnes Szonja Garai from Hungary.

The 38th Budapest Marathon had its high-octane run on Sunday, attracting a diverse international crowd and a strong local presence. The weather added a dramatic flair, shifting to rain and cloudy skies with temperatures around 14 degrees Celsius.

In line with the event's growing international appeal, Hungarian President Katalin Novak initiated the race, in which she also participated with her family.

The marathon witnessed the participation of a diverse array of runners, including the oldest male marathon runner, 79-year-old Ferenc Kiss from Hungary, and the oldest female marathon runner, 75-year-old Eva Seidlova from neighboring Slovakia.

Saturday was reserved for shorter distances. More than 23,000 participants from 96 countries and regions put on their running shoes over the weekend. Enditem
