ADDIS ABABA, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) -- Eight people were killed in a road accident in Ethiopia's Oromia Region, local officials said on Monday.
The accident occurred in the Kelam Welega Zone of the Oromia Region on Monday morning when a midibus traveling on the road collided with a truck, leaving eight people dead, state-affiliated Fana Broadcasting Corporate (FBC) quoted local officials as saying.
The police also said four others sustained serious and light physical injuries in the accident. The injured are currently receiving medical treatment at nearby health facilities.
In another road accident on Friday, at least six students were killed after a bus overturned in Ethiopia's northern region of Tigray, according to local officials.
Although the East African country has one of the lowest per capita car ownership rates in the world, deadly traffic accidents are relatively common, with the blame often put on bad roads, reckless driving, lax enforcement of safety rules, and a flawed system for issuing driving licenses. Enditem
