TEHRAN, Oct. 17 (Xinhua) -- Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian highlighted the necessity to lift the siege of Gaza, expressing his country's determination to send humanitarian aid to the city.

Amir-Abdollahian made the remarks during phone calls with his counterparts from Ireland and Tunisia on Monday, according to statements posted on the Iranian Foreign Ministry's website Tuesday.

During his call with Irish Foreign Minister Micheal Martin, Amir-Abdollahian condemned Israel's airstrikes on Gaza, warned that the war could spread to other fronts, and stressed the need for opening humanitarian corridors to supply Gaza with water, food, and medicine.

Martin voiced concern about the escalation of tensions in Gaza and expressed hope that Iran would propose a useful initiative to ease the crisis, according to the statement.

Speaking to Tunisian Foreign Minister Nabil Ammar, Amir-Abdollahian said Iran would continue its efforts to lift the siege of Gaza and send humanitarian aid to the coastal enclave through Egypt.

The Iranian foreign minister expressed hope that the Organization of Islamic Cooperation meeting, which is scheduled to be held in Saudi Arabia's Jeddah on Wednesday, would issue a statement in support of the Palestinians and help stop the Israeli attacks.

Ammar, for his part, called for an immediate end to the attacks on Gaza. Enditem
