TEHRAN -- Iran confirmed on Wednesday the "unconditional" end of the restrictions imposed by the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on its missile-related activities, while the United States imposed new sanctions on the same day on Tehran's missile and drone programs.

In a statement published on its website, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said, "Today, the last part of the anti-Iran restrictions, including assets freeze and financial restrictions on certain Iranian individuals and entities, imposed for years by the UNSC in the areas related to missile activities and exchange of relevant services and technologies, were terminated unconditionally." WASHINGTON -- The U.S. House of Representatives on Wednesday failed to elect a new speaker in the second round of voting, as Right-wing Republican Jim Jordan, chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, lost more votes from his own party compared with the first round amid continued Republican infighting.

Jordan won 199 votes out of the 221 House Republicans, losing 22 Republican votes in the second round of full-chamber voting, compared with 20 Republican defections in the first round on Tuesday, indicating mounting resistance within the party and casting doubt about the way forward. MAKUENI -- At least five people were killed on Tuesday night while several others sustained injuries in an accident involving a commuter bus, a tractor and a truck along the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway, according to the police.

Peter Maina, Kibwezi divisional police commander, said on Wednesday that the bus, which was traveling from the national capital of Nairobi to the coastal city of Mombasa, first rammed into a tractor ahead of it before causing more damage in the Kambu area in Makueni County. (Kenya-Road Accident)

UNITED NATIONS -- The United States on Wednesday vetoed a Security Council resolution that would have called for humanitarian pauses in Gaza.
