CARACAS -- Venezuela on Thursday rejected the latest terms and conditions imposed by Washington on easing its sanctions against the South American country.

Head of the Venezuelan government delegation to conciliation talks with the opposition, Jorge Rodriguez, said his country "categorically" rejected statements by prominent U.S. officials that relaxing sanctions against Venezuela was contingent on allowing members of the opposition to run for office. VIENTIANE -- Authorities in central Laos' Khammuan province have awarded a concession to a local company to search for and mine barite ore on a four-hectare site in Bualapha district.

The company will be allowed to carry out explorations and processing of the mineral for five years and will be able to renew the agreement, with project progress to be reviewed in conjunction with provincial authorities every five years, Lao national radio reported on Friday. SEOUL -- Kim Jong Un, top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), met in Pyongyang with visiting Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Thursday, the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported Friday.

During the meeting, Kim, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and president of the State Affairs of the DPRK, reviewed his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin last month in Russia and reaffirmed the DPRK's willingness to "faithfully" implement the agreements reached by the two leaders, the report said.
