GAZA -- A Palestinian spokesman announced on Tuesday the "total collapse" of the health system in the Gaza Strip due to power outage and the exhaustion of fuel needed to operate generators in hospitals.

Ashraf Al-Qudra, spokesman for the Gaza-based Health Ministry, told a press conference that Israeli attacks had so far killed 65 medical staff, destroyed 25 ambulances, and made 12 hospitals and 32 health centers in the Palestinian enclave inoperable. (Palestine-Health System-Collapse)

DHAKA -- Bangladesh has begun evacuating millions of people as dangerous Cyclone Hamoon is closing on the coast of the South Asian country on Tuesday.

Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), which Tuesday issued a special weather bulletin, said under the cyclone's influence, squally weather may affect north bay, adjoining coastal area of Bangladesh and the maritime ports.

JOHANNESBURG -- A total of 543 workers of Gold One Mine, a gold mine located east of Johannesburg, have been held hostage underground since Sunday, the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) of South Africa said on Tuesday.

The miners went down on Sunday night and have been prevented from coming out by some armed group, Mlulameli Mweli, interim regional secretary for the NUM, told Xinhua by phone. "Some of them are diabetics and on different chronic medications, and they have not had access to food since Sunday night."

OTTAWA -- Five people, including three children, were dead after intimate partner violence escalated into a shooting rampage at two homes in Canada, local media reported Tuesday.

According to CTV News, it started with a 911 call about someone breaking into a home in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, around 10:20 p.m. Monday local time and officers found a 41-year-old person deceased with a gunshot wound at the residence. (Canada-Shooting-Casualty) Enditem
