KUALA LUMPUR, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- Coordination between states and neighboring countries is vital when planning infrastructure developments, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said on Thursday.
Anwar also emphasized the need to expedite development and infrastructure projects while simplifying processes between the federal government and states, such as land transfers, after chairing a meeting involving the Northern Corridor Implementation Authority, the Iskandar Regional Development Authority and the East Coast Economic Regional Development Council.
"In addition, the planning and development of economic corridors also needs to take into account planning and development potential in neighboring countries," he said.
Anwar, who is also the finance minister, said 185 billion ringgit (38.65 billion U.S. dollars) in cumulative investments had been recorded by the northern corridor for 2022.
Iskandar Malaysia, the southern development corridor centered in Johor state which borders Singapore, recorded 409.5 billion ringgit in committed investments and the East Coast Economic Region received committed investments amounting to 164.7 billion ringgit, he said.
