NJERU, Uganda, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) -- All seven foreign teams have arrived in Uganda ahead of the regional CECAFA (Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations) under-15 boys' football championship.

"The Djibouti team arrived first on Wednesday, while the three teams of Rwanda, Ethiopia and Somalia all jetted in on Thursday. The South Sudan, Tanzania and Zanzibar teams have also arrived by road on Friday," Yussuf Mossi, the CECAFA competitions director, told Xinhua.

The championship will take place at the FUFA Technical Center in the Eastern Town of Njeru between November 4-16.

Ethiopia and South Sudan will kick off the competition, while the defending champions and hosts Uganda will play the second Group A match on the same day.

Mossi said that this tournament will help teams in the CECAFA Zone to prepare for the Total Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) U17 qualifiers in 2024.

"We need to give these youngsters the playing field so that they can improve and also for the member associations to ensure that they pick the right players for the age category tournament," he explained.

Tanzania, Zanzibar, Somalia, and Rwanda are the teams in Group B that kick off their matches on November 5. Enditem
