Bulgaria holds runoffs to elect more mayors

SOFIA, Nov. 5 (Xinhua) -- Bulgarians went to the polls on Sunday to elect a total of 573 mayors in the local elections' runoff.

Around 7,250 polling stations opened across the country at 7:00 a.m. local time (0500 GMT) for 3.9 million eligible voters to cast their ballots. The elections are going to end at 8:00 p.m. (1800 GMT).

As many mayors were elected in the first round of the elections last Sunday along with 5,053 municipal councilors, the voters need to decide on mayors of 91 municipalities and 451 mayoralties in Bulgaria, as well as 31 quarters in Sofia, Plovdiv and Varna.

The local elections in Bulgaria are held every four years. Enditem
