ANKARA, Nov. 5 (Xinhua) -- Hundreds of Turks rallied on Sunday to support Palestinians outside the Incirlik Air Base in southern Türkiye, hours before a visit to Ankara by U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

Several U.S. forces are stationed at Incirlik Air Base in the southern city of Adana.

The protestors, holding Turkish and Palestinian flags, chanted slogans against Israel and the United States, and tried to enter the base by throwing stones, bottles and fireworks, the semi-official Anadolu Agency reported.

Turkish police fired tear gas to disperse the rally organized by the Humanitarian Relief Foundation (IHH). In 2010, the IHH led a flotilla attempting to break Israel's blockade on the Gaza Strip which clashed with Israeli forces, leaving 10 Turks on board killed.

Türkiye and Israel have been in a normalization process after years of enmity since the incident in 2010. Since the Israel-Hamas conflict broke out in early October, the Turkish government has repeatedly criticized Israel's military operation in Gaza.

On Saturday, Ankara recalled its ambassador to Israel due to the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip caused by ongoing Israeli attacks. Enditem
