BUENOS AIRES, Nov. 6 (Xinhua) -- Boca Juniors have appointed Mariano Herron as their interim manager following the departure of Jorge Almiron, the Argentine club said on Monday.

Herron, who has been an assistant at Boca since 2023, will be joined by assistant coaches Walter Pico and Claudio Maurel.

The announcement came just hours after Almiron tendered his resignation in the wake of Boca's 2-1 extra-time defeat to Brazil's Fluminense in the Copa Libertadores final on Sunday.

"We are going to take our time to name a permanent manager," Boca vice president Juan Roman Riquelme told journalists.

"We want to thank Jorge and we wish him all the best in the future."

Boca are currently 12th in the Argentine Primera Division's Group B, having won just three of 11 league games this season. The Buenos Aires giants have three games remaining in the regular season. Enditem
