CANBERRA -- The Australian government has expressed concerns over the impact of a major telecommunications outage on critical services.

Millions of Australians were on Wednesday morning left without mobile and internet service after Optus, Australia's second-largest telecommunications company with over 10 million customers, was hit by a major outage.

The loss of service has caused public transport delays across the country, downed payment systems and cut hospital telephone lines. (Australia-Telecom Failure)

JAKARTA -- A 7.2-magnitude earthquake rocked off Indonesia's eastern province of Maluku on Wednesday, but did not trigger a tsunami, the country's meteorology, climatology and geophysics agency BMKG said.

Having centered at the shallow seabed, the earthquake occurred at 11:52 a.m. Jakarta time (0452 GMT), the agency said.

The location of the epicenter was 251 km northwest of Maluku Tenggara Barat (Tanimbar Islands) district, with a depth of 10 km under the sea floor, it said. (Indonesia-Earthquake)

YANGON -- Four people were killed and six others sustained injuries in a drop bomb attack on a field in southern Myanmar's Bago region on Tuesday, state-run daily The Mirror reported on Wednesday.

According to the media report, the attack was carried out by the People's Defence Force (PDF) on a field on the bank of Sittaung River near Tanawkyun village in Waw township of Bago region at around 2:15 p.m. local time on Tuesday. (Myanmar-Bomb Attack-Deaths) Enditem
