TEHRAN, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- Iran and Russia on Wednesday signed five documents on expanding bilateral judicial and legal cooperation, the semi-official Fars news agency reported.

The documents were signed on the sidelines of a meeting between Iranian Justice Minister Amin-Hossein Rahimi and his Russian counterpart Konstantin Chuychenko in the Iranian capital of Tehran, the report said.

According to Fars, the documents include agreements on cooperation between the two countries' justice ministries, judicial authorities, universities, lawyer associations, etc.

Speaking at the meeting, the Iranian justice minister described the Tehran-Moscow relations as "very good," saying the two countries had already signed agreements on the extradition of convicts and judicial assistance in legal affairs.

He highlighted the necessity to enhance bilateral cooperation within the frameworks of regional and international organizations, such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and BRICS, and welcomed a proposal by Chuychenko to form a joint working group of the BRICS member states' justice ministers.

The Russian minister, for his part, described the meeting as important and a basis for greater convergence and synergy between Moscow and Tehran in the judicial and legal areas, noting that the documents signed can prepare the ground for expanding bilateral relations in these regards. Enditem
