TOKYO, Nov. 13 (Xinhua) -- A senior Japanese government official resigned Monday after a magazine reported his company had failed to pay taxes.
The Japanese government approved the resignation of State Minister of Finance Kenji Kanda in charge of government bonds and monetary policy after he tendered the resignation letter to Finance Minister Shunichi Suzuki earlier in the day, which dealt another setback to Prime Minister Fumio Kishida's administration.
Kanda, a House of Representatives lawmaker of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party, admitted in a Diet session last week that his company's land and buildings had been seized by authorities on four occasions between 2013 and 2022 due to the nonpayment of fixed asset taxes, according to the Shukan Bunshun magazine.
Kanda is the third official to leave a ministerial post since Kishida's cabinet was revamped in September. The state minister of justice and the parliamentary vice minister of education and culture stepped down last month. Enditem
