DOHA, Nov. 15 (Xinhua) -- The spokesperson for the Qatari Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday that Israel's continued bombing in the Gaza Strip complicates the efforts being made to rescue hostages held there.

Majed bin Mohammad Al Ansari made the remarks during a meeting with the visiting Canada's representative on hostage issues, Julie Sunday, according to a statement released by the ministry.

During the meeting, they discussed the developments in Gaza and bilateral cooperation relations, the statement said.

Al Ansari highlighted the continued efforts of Qatar to mediate the release of hostages, noting that "Israel's continued bombing doubles the humanitarian catastrophe in the strip and complicates the efforts being made to release hostages held there," it added.

For her part, Sunday expressed Canada's gratitude to Qatar for its mediation efforts to release the hostages and evacuate Canadian citizens from Gaza, according to the statement.

Since the Israel-Hamas conflict erupted on Oct. 7, Qatar has been making efforts to mediate between the warring parties, secure the release of hostages held by Hamas, and de-escalate the situation in Gaza. Enditem
