MADRID, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- Spanish La Liga club Real Betis will be moving home for two years to allow for their Benito Villamarin Stadium to be re-modeled, the club's Corporative Director General, Federico Martinez Feria said on Friday.

Martinez Feria commented in a declaration on the club's TV channel, that the prevision was for Betis to play in the Estadio de la Cartuja in their hometown of Seville, from January 2025 until the work on their stadium is completed two years later.

He explained the start date for the work in the Benito Villamarin had been put back from the summer of 2026 to allow work to be carried on 'La Cartuja' to increase its capacity from 60,000 to 75,000, so it can host games in the 2030 World Cup.

"That has affected everything, but we are going to be positive about this as it means we are going to move to a ground with a bigger capacity, and it will also allow us to get rid of the athletics track which is there and which footballers don't like."

"It also means we will have more time to plan everything and organize the move," added Martinez Feria.

The work on the new Benito Villamarin will cost around 70 million euros and increase the ground's capacity to just over 60,000. Enditem
