SEOUL, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- One in six South Korean women quit their job after marriage due to pregnancy and child-rearing, statistical office data showed Tuesday.
The number of married women aged 15-54 who suffered a career break came in at 1,349,000 in April, down 48,000 from a year earlier, according to Statistics Korea.
It accounted for 17.0 percent of the total married women in the age group which reached 7,943,000.
Of the total married women experiencing a career break, the highest proportion of 42.0 percent picked infant care as the main reason to stop working.
It was followed by marriage itself cited by 26.2 percent and pregnancy and childbirth selected by 23.0 percent.
The highest portion of 40.0 percent kept a career break for 10 years or longer, trailed by 24.1 percent with a career break of 5-10 years and 13.2 percent with 3-5 years. Enditem
