KUALA LUMPUR, Nov. 23 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia's business confidence increased 3.2 percent in the fourth quarter, reflecting that business continues to expand in the Southeast Asian country, an official survey showed on Thursday.
The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) said in a statement that Malaysia's businesses anticipate a better business situation in the fourth quarter, with the confidence indicator up from 0.7 percent in the third quarter.
According to the DOSM, services, industry and construction are the three sectors that anticipate better business conditions in the fourth quarter.
The business confidence for the services sector remains on a positive trajectory, with the confidence indicator increasing to 6.3 percent as against 6.1 percent in the last quarter.
Meanwhile, the industry sector continues to be optimistic about business performance, with a confidence indicator of 4 percent for the corresponding quarter as compared to 1.3 percent in the third quarter.
Simultaneously, sentiments within construction sector upturned to a positive trajectory for the first time since the first quarter of 2018 by posting 1.7 percent as against −26.9 percent in the third quarter.
However, businesses within the wholesale and retail trade sector expect a pessimistic business outlook, with a confidence indicator of −3.6 percent in the fourth quarter as opposed to −1.5 percent in the third quarter. Enditem
