TEHRAN, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) -- A domestically-developed destroyer joined the Iranian Navy's fleet in the Caspian Sea on Monday, the semi-official Tasnim news agency reported.

Weighing 1,500 tons, the destroyer Deylaman, built by the Marine Industries Organization affiliated to the Iranian Defense Ministry, is equipped with various types of homegrown defense systems and gears, the report said.

Deylaman, a Jamaran-class destroyer, is capable of navigating for a long period of time, discovering, identifying, monitoring, confronting and, if necessary, destroying air, surface and subsurface threats and targets and allowing takeoff and landing by helicopters on its deck, according to the official news agency IRNA.

"The Deylaman destroyer was manufactured while the country has been under the Western sanctions, which is a symbol of hope and honor," Chairman of the Chiefs of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Mohammad Baqeri was quoted as saying at a ceremony held in the northern port city of Bandar Anzali to mark the beginning of the destroyer's service.
