MANILA -- An offshore earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.9 rocked Surigao del Sur province in the southern Philippines late Saturday night, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said.

The institute said the earthquake, which occurred at 10:37 p.m. local time (1437 GMT), hit at a depth of eight km, about 42 km northeast of Hinatuan town. The tremor also rattled the nearby provinces. (Philippines-Earthquake)

NEW DELHI -- The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) said on Saturday that the Aditya Solar wind Particle Experiment (ASPEX) payload onboard India's maiden solar mission, Aditya-L1 satellite, has commenced its operations and is performing normally.

"The Solar Wind Ion Spectrometer (SWIS), the second instrument in the ASPEX payload is operational," the ISRO said in a brief statement. (India-Solar Mission)

JAKARTA -- The first electric vehicle (EV) of China's automotive company Chery has rolled off the production line in Indonesia, the company said on Saturday at its production base in Bekasi, a city east of the capital Jakarta.

JAKARTA -- Flash floods and landslides hit Indonesia's North Sumatra province on Friday night, leaving one person dead and 11 others missing, officials said on Saturday.
