BERLIN, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) -- Leipzig snatched their eighth top-flight win to move into Bundesliga's top four after beating newly promoted Heidenheim 2-1 on Saturday, while the game between Bayern Munich and Union Berlin was cancelled due to heavy snowfall.

The Red Bulls gained the upper hand from the kick-off and pressed Heidenheim into defence as Lois Openda and Yussuf Poulsen came close in the early stages.

Heidenheim created their first chance with 14 minutes played when Marvin Pieringer nodded narrowly wide from central position inside the box.

Leipzig posed more threat but failed to break the deadlock ten minutes later as Openda missed the target seven meters.

The Belgium international remained in the thick of things as he was tackled down inside the box by Heidenheim midfielder Norman Theuerkauf at the half-hour mark. Openda stepped up and converted the subsequent penalty, marking his 10th goal of the season.

Leipzig continued on the front foot and made it two in the 44th minute after Poulsen tapped home David Raum's pinpoint cross.

It was a short-lived joy though as Heidenheim halved the advantage against the run of the game as Lennard Maloney's corner kick allowed Benedikt Gimber to slot home at the far post.

After the restart, Leizig produced a number of opportunities to put the result beyond doubt but neither Xavi nor Openda was able to score despite presentable chances.

The hosts survived a late scare as Gimber's shot in the dying seconds rattled the crossbar.

"We definitely should have scored the third goal. 24 scoring chances simply have to be enough to get the ball into the goal more often. Nevertheless, compliments to my team, we played a good game," said Leipzig coach Marco Rose.

With the victory, Leipzig climb on the fourth spot for the moment. Heidenheim slip to the 14th position.

Elsewhere, the match between Bayern and Union has been postponed due to heavy snowfall. Stuttgart defended its third place in the table after seeing off Werder Bremen 2-0. Borussia Monchengladbach secured its third straight win on home soil after edging Hoffenheim 2-1, while Bochum shocked Wolfsburg 3-1.

Already on Friday, relegation-threatened Cologne overpowered Darmstadt 1-0. Enditem
