RIO DE JANEIRO, Dec. 3 (Xinhua) -- Breno Lopes struck a first-half winner as Palmeiras all but secured their 12th Brazilian Serie A title on Sunday with a 1-0 home victory over Fluminense.

Lopes put his side ahead on the half hour by running onto Ze Rafael's through ball and taking a touch before coolly slotting a low shot into the far corner.

Fluminense were dealt a major blow in the 55th minute when Lucas Justen was shown a straight red card for a violent challenge on Joaquin Piquerez.

Palmeiras were untroubled thereafter as they registered their 20th win of the campaign.

Abel Ferreira's men now lead second-placed Atletico Mineiro by three points with a goal difference that is superior by eight goals.

In other Brazilian Serie A fixtures on Sunday, Flamengo won 2-1 at home to Cuiaba, Cruzeiro drew 0-0 at Botafogo, America Mineiro won 3-2 at home to Bahia, Fortaleza secured a 1-0 home win over Goias, Bragantino prevailed 1-0 at home to Coritba, Athletico Paranaense romped to a 3-0 home win over Santos and Gremio won 1-0 at home to Vasco da Gama.
