COLOMBO, Dec. 5 (Xinhua) -- Hydropower generation from the major reservoirs has accounted for 62.41 percent of the total power generated in Sri Lanka, according to the latest data from the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB).

The CEB said on Monday that it generated 25.37 gigawatt hours of electricity using hydropower as there are 15 major reservoirs used for power generation.

Thermal power accounted for 16.56 percent of power, solar power 4.88 percent, wind power 4.35 percent, mini hydropower projects 10.80 percent and biomass 1.01 percent.

Sri Lanka has been experiencing heavy rains in recent months, especially in areas where the reservoirs for power generation are located, leading to an increase in hydropower generation. Enditem
