NEW DELHI, Dec. 5 (Xinhua) -- The death toll in India's southern coastal state of Tamil Nadu has reached seven as Cyclone Michaung made its landfall in the neighboring state of Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday.

The cyclone, with a maximum wind speed of 90-100 km per hour, made the landfall near Bapatla area in southern Andhra Pradesh.

Heavy rains and strong winds lashed the coastal towns and villages, uprooting trees and electric poles and blowing off advertisement hoardings, said a report by The Hindu newspaper.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin said more than 60,000 people were moved to relief camps in nine districts in the state.

The National Disaster Response Force has deployed nearly 29 teams in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and Puducherry to carry out relief and rescue operations. Enditem
