TOKYO, Dec. 6 (Xinhua) -- An incident involving a car ramming into a crowd caused three injuries in the eastern Japanese prefecture of Ibaraki, local media reported on Wednesday.

Around 1 p.m. local time, a black car careened into a crowd during an event held in the plaza in front of the Hitachi City Office.

The local fire department said three individuals, aged between 20 and 40, sustained injuries and were taken to hospital after being struck by the vehicle.

One of the victims suffered serious injuries, although all three were not in life-threatening conditions, said the authority.

Eyewitnesses reported a chaotic scene with scattered vegetables and overturned benches visible on the site of the event, organized as part of the Week of Persons with Disabilities in Japan, showcasing products created by individuals with disabilities, national news agency Kyodo reported.

According to the police, the vehicle ran away from the scene and was found in a nearby location, citing deliberate reckless driving as the cause. Enditem
