MANILA, Dec. 7 (Xinhua) -- The pilot of a Piper plane that crashed in Isabela province in the northern Philippines a week ago was found dead on Thursday, said Constante Foronda, head of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.

He said the rescuers found the "lifeless" body of the pilot around 11 a.m. local time Thursday at the crash site in San Mariano town.

However, the plane's lone female passenger was yet to be found. "She appears to have survived the crash, as indicated by a makeshift shelter that she presumably put up near the wreckage," Foronda added.

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines said the single-engine light Piper aircraft took off at 9:39 a.m. local time on Nov. 30 at the Cauayan City Airport in Isabela, heading for Palanan, a coastal town east of the city, when it went missing.

On Dec. 5, a military helicopter spotted the wreckage in the vicinity of San Mariano town. However, it took rescuers days to reach the remote crash site due to bad weather. Enditem
