MOGADISHU -- Somali National Army (SNA) backed by local forces on Thursday killed 33 al-Shabab militants and injured several others in a special operation near Harardhere town in central Somalia, officials said.

Deputy Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism Abdirahman Yusuf Al-Adala said that the forces targeted a primary base of the militant group, resulting in casualties, destroyed the al-Shabab command center and seized weapons cache. (Somalia-Counterterrorism-al-Shabab)

NAIROBI -- Kenya has intensified its flood response countrywide as the death toll from devastating flash floods has risen to 165.

MANILA -- The pilot of a Piper plane that crashed in Isabela province in the northern Philippines a week ago was found dead on Thursday, said Constante Foronda, head of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.

KIEV -- Six people were killed and five others injured Thursday in a road crash involving three vehicles in Ukraine's eastern Kharkiv region, the regional department of the State Service for Emergencies said in a statement.

ISLAMABAD -- At least three people were killed and another injured after a fire engulfed a plaza in Pakistan's southern port city of Karachi on Wednesday, officials said.
