GAZA, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) -- The Al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), said on Friday that some Israeli captives were killed and wounded in an Israeli airstrike on the Gaza Strip.
Al-Qassam said in a brief statement that the Israeli shelling in Gaza City led to "the killing and injury of a number of Israeli detainees."
The Al-Qassam did not provide further details.
Earlier in the day, in another statement, al-Qassam said its fighters foiled an Israeli army operation to free one of its soldiers in Gaza, during which some Israeli soldiers were killed.
The Israeli army said two of its soldiers were "seriously injured" during the failed operation. There was no mention of the death of its soldiers.
Palestinian and Israeli sources estimated the number of Israeli detainees remaining in Gaza at about 137, including soldiers and officers.
Since Oct. 7, Israel has been launching massive airstrikes and a ground offensive in Gaza in response to the Hamas surprise attack on Israel. Enditem
