NEW YORK -- The U.S. dollar firmed in late trading on Friday, as the U.S. job growth accelerated in November while the unemployment rate fell.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, rose 0.45 percent to 104.0105 in late trading. (US-Dollar)

COLOMBO -- Sri Lankan migrant workers have remitted 5.4 billion U.S. dollars in the first 11 months of 2023, the latest data released by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) has showed.

The workers remitted 537.3 million dollars in November, up 40 percent from 384.4 million dollars from the same month last year, according to CBSL data released on Friday. (Sri Lanka-Overseas Remittance)

ISLAMABAD -- The remittances sent by overseas Pakistani workers decreased by 8.6 percent in November month on month, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) said on Friday.

The workers' remittances recorded an inflow of 2.2505 billion U.S. dollars in November as compared to the previous month's figure of 2.4631 billion dollars, the SBP data showed. (Pakistan-Economy-Remittance)

DAR ES SALAAM -- The opening ceremony of the 23rd edition of the East African Community (EAC) Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Trade Fair was held on Friday in the Burundian capital Bujumbura, said a statement.

The statement by the EAC headquarters in Tanzania's northern city of Arusha noted the event, which runs from Dec. 5 to 15, 2023, has attracted more than 1,000 artisans from seven EAC member states of Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda.
