TOKYO -- Tomiko Itooka, a 115-year-old woman in western Japan's Hyogo prefecture, has become the oldest person in Japan following the recent death of previous title holder, the government said Wednesday.

Born on May 23, 1908, in Osaka, Itooka became the oldest living person in Japan after Fusa Tatsumi, a 116-year-old woman living in Osaka prefecture, died of old age on Tuesday, according to the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare. (Japan-Oldest Person)

TOKYO -- The Lower House of Japan's Diet rejected a no-confidence motion against the cabinet of Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida on Wednesday, the last day of the current parliamentary session.

The main opposition Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan submitted the no-confidence motion against the Kishida cabinet to the Lower House earlier in the day over an unfolding political funds scandal, saying people's trust in the Kishida government has been completely lost and the cabinet lacks the ability to carry out policies. MANILA -- The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has raised its economic forecast for developing economies in Asia and the Pacific after robust domestic demand drove higher-than-expected growth in economies like China, according to a new ADB report released on Wednesday.

COLOMBO -- The International Monetary Fund (IMF)'s second review under a bailout package for Sri Lanka is expected to be completed by the end of the first half of 2024, IMF Senior Mission Chief for Sri Lanka Peter Breuer said on Wednesday.
