COLOMBO, Dec. 18 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lankan authorities have suspended the licenses of 400 foreign employment agencies in the past 12 months for violating the terms of their licenses, a minister said on Monday.

Addressing an event in Colombo to mark International Migrants Day, Minister of Labor and Foreign Employment Manusha Nanayakkara said they had also canceled the licenses of 200 foreign employment agencies during the same time.

The minister said the government has taken steps to improve standards for foreign employment agencies and the services offered by the government agencies.

Migrant workers' remittances are one of the main sources of foreign revenues for Sri Lanka, with over 275,000 Sri Lankans having gone for foreign jobs by the end of November 2023. Enditem
